Health literacy

Health literacy is defined as the ability to read, understand and act on health information. It is not only about simplified language and use of images. It is about grounding the education and motivating readers to make positive decisions and behavioural changes to improve their health.

When it comes to developing educational materials, it matters what you say, how you say it and how you present it.

Specific services include:

  • Application of health literacy principles to the materials we develop:
    includes running Fry assessments and health literacy evaluations using our bespoke checklist which assesses up to 21 core health literacy principles
     
  • Health literacy workshops:
    Clear by Design™ is our bespoke training programme on the application of health literacy principles to printed and electronic media. This can be run with in-house teams
     
  • Health literacy audits:
    includes assessment of current educational materials and recommendations for improvement. Be part of our 2011 audit
